Useful Information » More Adventure???
Many of our visitors to Ropeworks seem to be real live wires – looking to experience some adventure during their time in this beautiful part of the world. We're always being asked for suggestions and ideas for exciting things to do. If any of the following sound like they might ”rock your boat” we recommend that you make some plans by making contact before your visit to the area.
climbing & mountain skils
near Llanberis in Snowdonia. born & bred in the area, Bryn & Beck Williams are old friends of Ropeworks. check out their site if you are interested in learning to climb, scramble or walk & navigate in Snowdonia.
plas Y Brenin is the National Montaineering Centre and offer courses at all levels in climbing, hill walking, kayaking, mountain biking etc.etc.! taster days are available that incorporate upto 3 different activities.
indoor climbing
between Caernarfon & Llanberis, we're lucky to have Beacon on our doorstep as it's one of the UK's best indoor centres. a variety of courses are available, including a 1˝ hour taster session for anyone who's never climbed before
sailing
from the main beach at Abersoch, just 15 mins from Ropeworks, Abersoch Sailing School can teach adults and children to sail or windsurf. if you've done a bit before, you can hire a variety of boats or if you fancy a peaceful paddle, single and double seater sea kayaks are available.
surfing
at Abersoch – just 15 mins from Ropeworks. the Abersoch surf school runs from West Coast and is open from April until the end of November (all equipment provided). you're also able to hire boards and wetsuits all year round. the shop is always stuffed with a great range of new gear & there are usually some secondhand boards available.
mountain biking
based in Snowdonia, Jamie & Mo (old friends of ours) offer some briliantly imaginative mountain biking courses and experiences that include basic bike skills courses, full day “point to point” rides (with a pick up so you don't have to ride home!) ... Mo even runs a “chicks on bikes” day - no boys allowed!
coasteering (climbing and srambling and big jumps into the sea!!)
scramble around the sea cliffs of Anglesey, climbing, jumping, swimming...exhilarating (some would say it's pure madness!).
white water rafting
the National Whitewater Centre near Bala provides the thrill of white water rafting on the famous Tryweryn river – you can book as an individual or as a group.
horse riding
the Trecking / Hacks section will give you information on how you can explore the glorious countryside or coastline of the peninsula on horseback with the highly renowned Pen Llŷn Lusitano Stud & Riding centre. you can ride for just an hour or two, take a full day riding course or even organise a riding holiday.
